The Sunday ride was amazing! It was our first ride of the monsoon season, and we had plenty of rain pouring down all night, continuing into Sunday morning. It was also my KTM’s first rainy ride, and I was excited to try the Rain mode. The bike definitely did not disappoint; what a fantastic machine!
We took a short ride to Morbe Dam, which usually takes us about 45 minutes to reach. After a few photo opportunities, we followed our usual routine: breakfast of Missal Pao, Batata Vada, and Kanda Bhaji. I really enjoyed the “Tarri” Missal, which set the tone for a spicy Sunday. A new recipe was brewing in my mind – Tarriwala Mutton Masala.

Tarriwali Missal
Once I got home from the ride, I immediately headed to the kitchen to work on my version of an old-fashioned Mutton Curry. The result is what you see here!
Prep Time: 25 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Serves: 3
Ingredients:
Mutton ( curry cut ) – 750 gms
Onions – 250 gms
Green chillies – 50 gms
Coriander – a few sprigs
Ginger-garlic paste – 2 tbsp
Ground Black Pepper – 1 tsp
Clove Powder – a pinch
Poppy seeds – 4 tbsp
Bay leaf – 1 piece
Cumin powder – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Red Chilli powder – 2 tbsp
Saoji Masala / Garam Masala – 1/2 tsp (I opted for Saoji Masala to make the dish extra spicy )
Salt – to taste
Fat ( for frying ) – 20 gms
Groundnut Oil – 100 ml
Hot water – 400 ml
Instructions:
1 ) Wash and clean the mutton thoroughly and boil in the pressure cooker for 3 whistles. Shut the flame and let it cool.
2 ) Soak the poppy seeds in a little water and set it aside for five minutes.
3 ) Grind the onions, chillies, coriander and poppy seeds together to a coarse paste.
4 ) Heat fat in a kadhai or pan and fry the mutton pieces lightly. Set aside.
5 ) In another kadhai, heat the oil. Saute the paste whilst adding ginger-garlic paste and fry nicely till golden brown. Add all the powder & Bay leaf except saoji / garam masala and fry further for five minutes on a medium flame.
6 ) Add the mutton and mix well. Add salt and hot water and cover with a lid. Let it cook on slow flame for 30 minutes.
7 ) After the stipulated time, remove the lid and add Saoji / Garam masala. Cover with a lid and cook further for 5 to 10 minutes on a slow flame. Once done. Check whether the Mutton is cooked. Cooking time varies with the quality of the mutton. If cooked, remove from flame and serve with Roti or Rice.
