How to cook delicious Sesame Paneer Poppers

The week’s been hectic, and the busier it gets, the more I start planning my weekend ride. This weekend looks promising with pleasant, chilly weather, and I’m excited to enjoy several Vada Paos at Morbe or Khopoli. It sets a great tone for a weekend filled with drinks and starters. This time, I needed to focus on a vegetarian recipe since my spouse is a strict vegetarian, and we already have guests for lunch and dinner. I love experimenting with Paneer, whether it’s in Indian, Chinese, Continental, or Pan-Asian cuisine. A hot, crispy piece of paneer is enough to make any starter special. So, I decided to create a new snack—Sesame Paneer Poppers. Perfect for match-day weekends or potluck dinners, they come together in minutes and are sure to be the star of the table.

Ingredients:

Paneer – 250 gms
Capsicum – 20 gms ( small size )
All Purpose Flour – 50 gms
Cornstarch – 2 tsp
Chopped Garlic – 3 tbsp
Tandoori Masala – 2 tbsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tbsp
Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
Baking Soda – a pinch
Salt – as per taste
Soy sauce – a few drops ( for umami flavour )
Sesame Oil – for frying

Method:

1 ) Chop the capsicum and dice the paneer. Marinate the paneer with ginger-garlic paste and refrigerate for 20 minutes ( for a crispy texture )
2 ) Make a thick batter of flour and water, and mix in cornstarch. Add the Tandoori Masala, chilli powder, garlic, baking soda, salt and soy sauce. Mix well.
3 ) Heat oil. Dip the paneer and capsicum in batter and deep-fry.
4 ) Garnish with unroasted sesame seeds.
