How to cook a delish Tawa Grilled Mackerel

No bike ride to Uran is complete without a visit to the Uran Fish Market. The bustling market opens around 8:30 AM and offers a wide variety of seafood. The produce is as fresh as the ocean, and the prices are much lower than those at your local market. Last Sunday, I decided to buy some fish and came across a fresh catch of mackerel. The sheen and freshness of the fish tempted me to purchase half a dozen pieces, and I was inspired to try a new recipe for Tawa Grilled Mackerel. On my return journey, I had developed a cooking plan and was eager to try it out. P.S. This spicy mackerel pairs well with a glass of chilled beer. Happy cooking!

Prep Time – 30 mins
Cook Time – 20 mins
Serves – 3

Mackerel – 6 pcs

For the marinade –
Ginger-garlic paste – 3 tbsp
Malvani masala – 1 tbsp
Dry Onion-garlic powder – 1 tbsp
Soy sauce – 1 tbsp
Sesame Oil – 1 tbsp
Salt – to taste
Lime juice – 1 tbsp

For the salad –

Finely chopped red chillies – 2 tbsp
Chopped onion – 1/2 cup
Chopped pepper – 3 tbsp
Sweet Chilli Sauce – 1 tbsp

Method:

1 ) Wash and clean the mackerel thoroughly. Make slits on sides.
2 ) Mix all the ingredients for the marinade in a bowl. Apply the marinade generously on each fish. Cover with a cling film or foil and set it in the refrigerator for twenty minutes.
3 ) Once set, remove from refrigerator. Heat 2 tbsp oil on a Tawa or Pan and place the mackerel. Simmer and cover the pan. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes turning sides frequently.
4 ) Mix all the ingredients for salad and keep ready. Once fish is done, set it on a plate and top it up with salad.
