As Friday rolls around, I find myself swept away by a tidal wave of work pressure, looming deadlines, and a burst of creative energy as I start plotting my upcoming Sunday ride. As I’ve mentioned in previous blogs, I’m embracing a vegetarian diet for Navratri, and I take pride in my commitment to this routine. However, my refrigerator is a barren landscape—empty—with no leftovers in sight to inspire a recipe with a twist. The only treasures left are the unassuming “Chauli,” or black-eyed peas.
Typically, I savour the delightful “Chawli chi Usal” that my mother masterfully prepares. It’s a fiery dish, rich with spices and generously topped with a fragrant “tarri.” The only effort required on my part is to reheat it on a hot tawa with a splash of zesty lemon juice, and just like that, a mouthwatering snack is born. Today, though, we’re embarking on a culinary adventure to create something different: curried black-eyed peas. So, let’s delve into this flavorful journey with lentils. Happy cooking!
